Phillies Home Opener

Our reporter Bradley Schlegel is at the Philles Home Opener today. Here's his story:

Going to the Phillies home opener has become my annual spring tradition.

I consider it a holiday, my preferred version of Christmas Day.

Since 1977, I have attended every opener at Veterans Stadium and Citizens Bank Park with my father -- except for one year.

In 1996, I accompanied my family to Alabama, where my brother was playing college baseball in Alabama.

Otherwise, I’ve been in the park every spring, regardless of the weather.

I saw Kiteman III, who successfully reached the backstop in 1980 following two failed bids in the 19070s.

I also saw the raising of two World Series championship banners.
